Detailing / Cleaning
Detailing / Cleaning
Have your equipment cleaned and treated the right way. Vintage components that have never been serviced tend to have a thick layer of dust, nicotine, or more often than not, both. After years of service to these audio barn finds, I have my own specific processes to guarantee the best clean without damage to your component.
Faceplates / Knobs
All knobs and switches are removed and detail cleaned individually to ensure that they are perfectly clean of any residue from years of use.
Faceplates are removed when necessary, brushed aluminum is cleaned and polished with a proper solution (not window cleaner).
Plastics are cleaned with mild soap and water and scrubbed with non abrasives.
Cases / Chassis
Wood cases are removed and any damage noted. Real wood cases will be lightly refinished, oiled, and treated. Refinishing can be done at request.
Metal cases will be cleaned, any rust spots touched up. Multiple areas of opportunity will be recommended for refinish / repaint.
Connections / Contacts
Sound matters just as much as the visual, and if the exterior is crusty, so will be the electrical connections throughout. All points of contact such as the power cable prongs, internal and external of balanced and unbalanced inputs / outputs, fuse holders, plug connections, will be cleaned, polished, and treated with contact enhancer.
All switches, front panel controls, and sliders, will be properly cleaned and lubricated.
Price is an ballpark estimate based on previous units brought into the shop, cost could be higher or lower depending on work needed. Quote will be given for total cost at time of arrival for service. For cleaning and detailing services there will be no up front diagnostic cost, but extra charges may apply if unit is in need of repair and authorization is given to fix the component.
